Elizabeth Henry, partner and head of employment law at Bradford-based legal firm Last Cawthra Feather, says there has been a surge of local companies using zero hour contracts, which give no guarantees of shifts or work patterns.

A survey by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development found one million UK workers are on zero hour contracts.
