I’ve written a new verse to my adaptation of Woody Guthrie’s Jesus Christ song, and plan to sing it at the Castle on Good Friday:

  • Tune: Jesse James (American traditional). Original words: Woody Guthrie. Adapted by Karl Dallas, 1999.

Eric Gill: Jesus expelling the moneychangers from the Temple
(War Memorial Sculpture, Michael Sadler Building, Leeds University)

He went to the synagogue
It was on a Saturday night,
Where people had to pay to be saved.
Jesus Christ began to shout:
Kick these robbers out
So they laid Jesus Christ in the grave.

Eric Gill: Jesus expels the moneychangers from the Temple.
