Following publication of the first in the series, Wonderful Women, telling the story of Marianne, the red drummer girl of 1789, a number of readers have objected that there should be a companion series devoted to outstanding men.
Our first thought was that men tended to dominate the scene anyway, but it was pointed out that there were plenty of males who were not part of the chauvinist establishment, and whose stories have often not been told.
Men who campaigned for women’s suffrage, for instance.
