My name is Karl Dallas and I celebrated my 83rd birthday on January 29, 2014. I’ve been at it since I was a grammar schoolboy, listening to Midnight in Frankfurt on AFN via a short-wave radio while the Nazi V2s were landing in Tooting Broadway. I wrote my first article for Melody Maker in July, 1957, and I’m still doing it today in various media, as you can see if you go to my archive.

Before I started writing on music, in the late 1940s I was writing film reviews, mostly for Connery Chappell’s Picturegoer magazine (where I reviewed Marilyn Monroe’s first bit-part in a B-movie.) Today my main big-screen focus is on BCB Radio‘s monthly Movietime show. Listen to an archive of past editions, plus other broadcasts, by clicking on the link below:

In 1979 I moved from music to IT, and there was a time when you could read my writings on personal computers in virtually every magazine with the word “User” in its title. I moved from IT journalism into consultancy, funded by companies like Microsoft, Oracle, and IBM. Today I publish my commentaries on the CTRL-V website.
I’ve got a lot of different websites and blogs, eg www.karldallas.com, houstonmedia.tv, not to mention reality2012.wordpress.com.
From now on, thanks to some helpful advice I’ve received from Pan Aveyard, I’ve decided to cut the crap and put everything through this site.
Now, back to my real work, which is writing. I feel a new song coming on.

So what does HOA stand for? Head on argument? Holy office ambiguity? Are you being tautological? Does it stand for help or assistance? Head over elbow?
